Micronations of The World Ep 3: The Kingdom of Lovely

The Kingdom of Lovely is a micronation that was built through the production of a BBC documentary called "How to Start Your Own Country". The only territory occupied by Lovely is the flat of the founder, British writer/comedian Danny Wallace, which is located in London. (Citizens could make their house, flat or land an embassy of Lovely by taking a photograph of it displaying the nation's flag.) As such, most of the nation is Internet-based.

Population:

At its peak, Lovely had 58,165 people registered as citizens on the now-defunct citizensrequired.com website.

Motto:

Die dulci freure (Have a nice day)

Currency:

The Interdependent Occupational Unit (IOU)

History:

As mentioned earlier, Lovely was created through the production of "How to Start Your Own Country". Here is the progress of the founding of the micronation:

Ep 1 ("Birth of a Nation"): Danny Wallace searches for territory for his micronation, starting by visiting Sealand. He also meets 2 people who claim to own the moon. He then tries to occupy Eel Pie Island in the Thames but leaves after the police come. Finally, he decides to use his flat as Lovely's territory.

Ep 2 ("Citizens Required"): Danny chooses a design for his nation's flag with the help of an advertising company. He records a national anthem and plays it during his interview at Ian Lee's LBC show.

Ep 3 ("For King and Country"): Danny meets the SAS(Second Amendment Sisters) and the King of Fusa. He also goes to the Principality of Seborga.

Ep 4 ("State of a Nation"): Danny visits the town of Celebration which maintains its pleasantness through strict rules and regulations, and the self-governing neighbourhood of Christania. He also speaks to a Catholic Cardinal about the role of religion in society, and sheriff Joe Arpaio about law and order. A visit to a death row compells him to decide against the death penalty.

Ep 5 ("The Bank of Danny"): While he struggles to pay his electricity bill, Danny begins to kick-start his nation's economy. He investigates the National Debt with advice from former Chancellor of the Exchequer Kenneth Clarke. After designing his currency, the IOU, he shows it to Andrew Bailey, the Chief Cashier at the Bank of England. He also discovers the Principality of New Utopia and interviews the UK Pro Consul, Tony Nicodermus. He applies for international aid and fails due to the wealth of his citizens.

Ep 6 ("The United Nations"): Danny attempts to enter the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with a song called "Stop the Muggin', Start the Huggin'". To offically become a country, he goes to the United Nations headquarters to win their support. His nation was rejected due to the lack of territory. The series ends with a gathering of citizens at Leicester Square, where Danny reveals that the nation is called Lovely.
