Did you know? Singapore's military was developed with the help of Israel!
After Singapore separated from Malaysia in 1965, it established full diplomatic relations with Israel. Our armed forces, including our famous National Service programme, were modelled after the Israeli Defence Forces.
From 1966, Israeli military advisers were flown in to Singapore to help set up the Singapore military and train the soldiers. However, due to Malaysia and Indonesia having a poor relationship with Israel (Malaysia still bans all Israeli citizens from entering), the military advisers were referred to as "Mexican" in order to keep their nationality secret.
Besides these, Israel also supplied Singapore's poor military arsenal with tanks and missiles, among others.
