How to De-stress and Fun Activities to try out during the Holidays

First, HBL, then it's finally the June Holidays. Well, while we all may be rushing our holiday homework and burning midnight oil to study until like 3 o'clock in the morning (like me), you guys still need to know that it really still is a good time to relax and chill during the long holiday. So, this is how to de-stress and some fun activities to try at home!

Stress

Stress is unpreventable, everyone feels stress, especially from the pressure of the education system in Singapore. We need to know that stress is neither good nor bad. However, over-stressing yourself is not mentally healthy in the long term so try not to. Just to comfort you, everyone gets stressed and really even I do because of all the homework all the school teachers and your grades following with like countless tuition classes.

Ways to De-stress

So, when we get too stressed, it's time to take a break! There are many ways to de-stress depending on your preference.

What you can do:

  1. Watch television/YouTube for about 30 minutes

  2. Sleep for about 30 minutes

  3. Listen to music and study at the same time

  4. Play board games with your family

These are just the few ways to actually de-stress, let's continue...

Fun and Interesting Activities to try out

1. You could try Origami.

Origami is quite a fun and interesting activity. Folding coloured paper is quite therapeutic for some as well. You could fold many things with the paper. You could fold shapes, animals and even small furniture. Even if you do not have origami paper, you could you a piece of square paper, either from an A4 piece of paper or maybe even a piece of newspaper. You could visit online guides that are provided just below to aid you in learning the basics of folding and some models to fold.

2. Play board games

Ever played Snakes and Ladders and won your friend and family in your childhood? It is finally time and time again to relive those possibly forgotten childhood memory! Play a game of UNO with your family or challenge them to a game of Monopoly. Bonding with your parents and siblings are quite important and Family Game Night is common in many families and it can improve your relationship with them. As I know, some of your parents are not able to play with you, you can get your siblings or if not, have a duel with the computer to a game of chess!

3. Read the whole Harry Potter series/Watch all the Harry Potter movies

Do you want to take up this challenge? Harry Potter is a novel that was written in the 1990s by J.K. Rowling. It's series consists of 7 books (including an extra Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Script*). If you think that you may not be able to finish the wordy books, you can also watch all the movies to get the big idea of the books first and if you are interested, you can either go borrow the book or just borrow the e-books.

4. Start Writing a Diary

Writing a Diary every day can be quite a fun activity if you think it is. It is also quite a good way to remember important events in your own life by recording them down in your diary, whether it is good or bad. It is quite effective and when you recount the memorable events, you will feel very happy.

5. Write a Story

Creative Writing allows you to freely express your many wonderful ideas. Who knows what you will be able to write out? A twisted fairy tale of a horror story with murder, up to your imagination. Even if your English is not good, you can still write and if you are comfortable, you may send it to me as I would love to read your work. Writing is an art, learn to appreciate its beauty.

A pen in the hands of someone may mean nothing, but to you it may be precious.
